The Southernmost Hindu temple

Hindu prayers and Indian food in Punta Arenas. (Map this!)
Punta Arenas is the Southernmost major city in the Chilean Patagoinia. It is a duty free zone, so lots of Argentinians and Chileans flock there for goods, electronics and cars. It is also a stop-over point for people on their way to the Torres del Paine national park in Chile.
We had heard that there were Indian families here. Starved for Indian food, we determined to get in touch with them and were invited to participate in the Hindu ceremonies in their temple. They also graciously invited us to lunch. The religious ceremonies were lead by “didi”, the great aunt of the younger generation. It was unlike any Indian temple we had been to. Here Jesus mixed with Guru Nanak and Buddha. Mirrors were everywhere. An on-site museum houses the family collection of art objects through the years. This is a video of part of the ceremony and the museum.
